Daughter of the Empire

The story begins with Mara, a daughter of a noble family / clan (the Acoma). Sitting in a temple, she receives the news of both her father and brother's deaths; her clan had lost a battle due to another clan's betrayal (the Minwanabi). Left as the last heir, and with barely any military force to spare, Mara is forced to restore her clan with only her creative and witty mind.
Her foremost problem is such:  the clan's military force is weak, and enemies are eager to attack, with or without the subtleties of politics. The only way to heighten her military force is to recruit soldiers who are related to the Acomas; and drawing upon too many relatives would let all know of the clan's weakness. Resolved, Mara chose an unorthodox solution: she recruited warriors who had lost their clans, survivors of other battles. That way, no one knew of the clan's disposition, and the recruits were certain to be distant relatives.
Gaining a loyal army, Mara moves on to other pressing problems; she is forced to search for a suitable husband.
Well, that wraps it up for today! :)
